Excellence in Long-Term Care
We have long noted that the Baldrige Excellence Framework can be a powerful model for helping any organization in any sector, in any location, of any size. A committed leader who engages the workforce in pursuit of their mission can achieve phenomenal results. Until now, however, there has never been a Baldrige Award recipient in long-term care. Now there is, and we are proud to congratulate Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center – Mountain Valley.
We got to know its Executive Director, Maryruth Butler, and her team while working with them in pursuing the Gold Award from the Baldrige-based AHCA/NCAL Quality Award program. When they received that award in 2011, we knew that the organization was still not satisfied with all they had accomplished. And they continued to strive for excellence, maintaining their 5-star CMS rating (which they have had since the ratings began in 2009), achieving a deficiency-free survey earlier this year, boasting resident satisfaction and engagement scores of 100%, setting benchmark levels for low staff turnover, and continuing high census well above the state averages.
All of these accomplishments are from a 68-bed skilled nursing facility with less than 100 employees in a very rural part of Idaho. So, just as we asked in our last newsletter, what’s your excuse for not pursuing excellence?
